MADS NISSEN wins the AWARD OF EXCELLENCE – PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR at POY

Daily life in the remote mountain village of Pueblo Nuevo, an area that has been highly affected by the armed conflict and direct combat between the national army and the FARC-guerilla due to it's strategic location and the intensive production on coca-crops on the surrounding hillsides. The area is now dominated by FARC.

Congratulations to Mads Nissen who has just been awarded at Pictures of the Year International POY with the AWARD OF EXCELLENCE – PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR.

The award has been given in according to a portfolio of 40 images taken during the 2017, including many photographs from Mads’s project about Colombia’s path towards peace.

Mads received also the 2nd prize in ‘Portraits’ category with an image of the Afghan refugee Hazrat Ali, 16 yrs., waiting for his chance to cross into the EU.

Hazrat Ali, 16 yrs. have taken the journey all the way from Afghanistan to the gates of EU, where he hope to cross the border into Hungary within soon.
