“Scatta la Notizia” – An educational project led by Pietro Masturzo in Napoli

January 1, 2017

“Scatta la notizia” – shoot the news – is an initiative of social responsibility created by the non profit organizations Photolux  and Neapolis.Art with the support of Canon Italia. The project involved students from 14 to 18 years old from the  ’I.S.I.S. Rosario Livatino of San Giovanni a Teduccio, high school of the Naples area with the aim of helping them discover the world of visual communication.
Main purpose of the activity was to kindle the interest of the young students and show them the world of information through images, in view of a possible future profession or simply a new passion. A photojournalism experience which teaches how to observe reality from a new prospective and can lead the way to new forms of self-expression
A very special teacher accompanied the students in this fun and exciting journey of discovery: Pietro Masturzo, winner of the prestigious World Press Photo of the Year award in 2010.
Shoot the news had guided the students to this experiment of visual narration via the creation of their own photographic reportage.
The students were given the chance to describe the environment they live in and to tell, through the lens, the beauty and the downsides of the surroundings. The project offered photography classes, both theoretical and practical, with the aid of reflex cameras.
The images were exhibited for the first time in San Giovanni a Teduccio (NA), then in Ascoli Piceno, to finally arrive in Lucca.
