Helmand province, Afghanistan
As the war in Afghanistan enters it’s 9th year, the situations of the Afghans seems to have improved little. These images are fragments of a country in peril.
In March 2009 , I spend eight days in Afghanistan on a trip organized by the Danish Foreign affairs who invited me to see ‘the progress and rebuilding’ of the war torn Helmand-province.
I found the whole experience to be somehow surreal and felt myself surrounded by fear. The Afghans are living in fear from suicide bombs, oppression and poverty. But it seemed like the foreigners too were living on constant guard and in mistrust.
When we finally went outside the military bases, it was heavily armoured in a fast driving convoy. Through the bulletproof glass, could I see fragments of Afghanistan.
